KRLX mix #57 (10/22/2020)
DJ Owen’s “first and likely only foray into the 2000s” (it was), this edition of Where The Action Was will always feel like the essence of hope to your admin.
Yes, she loves the neo-garage rock of The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Libertines, The Dirtbombs, The Detroit Cobras, et al. on its own merits. And as a young mother, she was personally indebted to — believe it — The Hives for once lulling a fractious preschool Owen to sleep in the family minivan.
But it was the fact that this episode aired on the day she absentee-voted to replace the orange excrescence in the White House with (the imperfect but not sociopathic) Joe Biden that will forever make this episode a source of joy. Our democracy is still in peril, but this chord-crunching playlist nevertheless sounds like optimism to me (er, her).
