KRLX mix #19 (10/15/2018)
It could be that young men sporting eyeliner and spandex didn’t play too well in late ’70s Peoria. (A likely scenario.) But for whatever reason, glam rock didn’t catch on in America the way it did across the pond. If there’s anything your DJ is here for, though, it’s paying proper homage to songs that should have been far more popular in their time than they actually were — especially when they’re as catchy and riff-laden as these are.
Not that this playlist, “a mix of 70s glam, New York punk, and some things that were inspired by them,” is entirely lacking in hits. Indeed, it fairly glistens with David Bowie, Blondie, Abba, Sweet, and even some surprise Springsteen. So if you’re in need of some va va va voom in your life, “Velvet Goldmine” will supply it.
