KRLX mix #63 (2/4/2021)
One generation’s FM radio staples are another’s discovery — or simply recovery — of early to mid-Seventies blues rock.
Not that your admin could have heard all of these tracks at the Skateland in Osseo circa 1977 (she’s looking at you, James Gang’s “Funk #49”). As ever, DJ Owen displays the cognoscente’s touch, rounding out the Stones- and Little Feat–larded playlist with selections from Fanny, Captain Beefheart, Big Star, and John Cale.
Well-known or lesser-known, these artists provide all the harp-blowing, slide-guitaring, boogie-pianoing blues-rock your ears could desire. So whether you’ve got the bell bottom blues or you gotta hit a man, you need to head to the Roadhouse!
P.S. Around the turn of the millennium, the DJ’s father began compiling Christmas-themed playlists, which now number more than 30. Vol. 7 contains this Bob Rivers ditty, which will ensure you’ll never hear CCR’s “Up Around the Bend” the same way again.
